Antimicrobial Resistance: Stewardship and One Health in the Eastern Mediterranean Region

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) poses a significant threat in the Eastern Mediterranean region due to infectious diseases, weak health systems, and misuse of antimicrobials. This paper discusses successful antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) initiatives and the One Health approach in countries like GCC, Egypt, Iran, Jordan, and Pakistan. It highlights potential progress and challenges, such as limited resources and fragmented health systems. The paper advocates for a comprehensive, collaborative response, promoting coordinated action, improved surveillance, and responsible antimicrobial use.
